  • Overview

    Due to an internal move we require an experienced Process Chemist to join our Process Development Team.


    Reporting to the Process R&D Group Leader this position is a pivotal one within the organisation and will require excellent technical skills coupled with first class project management skills.

    The overall focus of this opportunity will see you providing scale up and technical support to the company’s global Blending activities as required in support of their on-going business needs. The role will require occasional travel to other Afton sites across the EMEAI region and the United States, as well as occasional travel to supplier sites.


    • Undertaking technical aspects of new product commercialisations in support of additive blending and manufacturing activities.
    • Commercialising product formulation changes in accordance with global procedures. Act as Project Lead or team member for stage-gate projects that require this and communicate all appropriate information to relevant stakeholders.  Fully document the resulting data for future reference.
    • Develop products defining the manufacturing processes from bench scale studies with first-time manufacturing success, including fundamental correlations between process conditions and process chemistry. 
    • Pro-actively raise potential Plant / Process issues with internal Development groups.
    • Regularly liaise with technical personnel in order to develop and maintain an adequate level of technical knowledge and expertise.
    • Interface with customers and suppliers as required and provide appropriate documentation, e.g. Product Information Forms.
    • Liaise with the Purchasing group in support of potential raw material changes and technical approvals. Develop technical relationships with suppliers where appropriate.
    • Assist the Process Development Manager on global process technology activities as required.
    • Direct the work of technicians and other chemists assigned to projects.
    • Take personal responsibility for a safe working environment in the office and laboratory and participate in ISO related activities.


    • Good technical understanding - Degree/PhD or equivalent in Chemistry (organic/inorganic) or Chemical Engineering
    • Effective project management - You will need to demonstrate the ability to manage complex technical projects and work productively in cross functional teams.
    • Ability to solve complex problems in a timely, systematic and logical manner
    • Communicate results in a clear and concise manner appropriate to the recipient
    • Effective team player who is approachable and flexible, but has the ability to lead activities as required
    • Experience of working in a Process or Plant environment, ideally in a related industry (working with component integration)
    • Good computer skills
    • French language skills could be advantageous but are not essential
