  • Chemical Technician

  • Overview

    We currently have two vacancies for Chemical Technicians across the business. They will be expected to perform industry and other laboratory tests as requested, complete preliminary analysis, and record data.

    Responsibilities

    1. Preparation of components, additive packages & lubricant formulations for internal / external testing and supply to customers in line with project objectives and timings. Arranging of internal testing and in collaboration with group Technical Admin arrange external testing & dispatch.
    2. Complete preliminary analysis and interpretation of test results. Prepare reports, memos, presentations, etc., and/or enter into database(s), to communicate results to appropriate parties. Handle requests and report results in a timely fashion.
    3. Operate specialized bench test equipment specific to product area in accordance with established procedure. Perform tests accurately to insure reproducibility. Assume responsibilities for the maintenance and troubleshooting of the laboratory equipment and/or instrumentation necessary to perform the laboratory tests.
    4. Set up, run & monitor storage stability / compatibility studies on both additives and oil formulations. Observe and interpret results, reporting findings to appropriate parties via verbal, written, electronic and photographic communications.
    5. Manage selected Mini Technical Service Report programs from initiation to completion in a timely fashion. Dependent on experience and level.
    6. Purchase, maintain, and/or obtain adequate inventory of samples and lab supplies for testing and work area.
    7. Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and safe condition.
      Maintain adequate level of specific as well as general technical expertise through training, seminars, etc., to support required activity.
    8. Assure that complete ISO documentation is maintained on all ISO or quality related activities. Participate in ISO related activities and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the ISO function.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience minimums:

    • HNC or equivalent in Chemistry - For NewMarket or Afton employees, an appropriate combination of experiences that will support the required skill base may replace one or more of the specific experience requirements above.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Computer literacy
    • Effective oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work accurately and to deadlines
    • Demonstrated ability to attend to details
    • Able to complete basic laboratory procedures with intermediate to minimal supervision
    • Able to demonstrate basic knowledge of safe laboratory practices and procedures
    • Able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of laboratory terminology and basic equipment use
