Sr. R&D Engineer - Control Systems Programming

Overview

The primary function of the person selected to fill this position will be to design and support internally developed software used to control systems for R&D test stands and develop processes and methods used to conduct research on our products. The selected candidate will possess knowledge and software skills using Visual Studio with VB, C# and WPF. Familiarity with data acquisition software, signal interfacing, and noise analysis is preferred along with knowledge of electrical design, power requirements, sensors, control logic, electrical troubleshooting and safety implementation related to engine test cells, dynamometers, and vehicle testing.

Responsibilities

  • Support internally developed data acquisition software for existing and new test stands
  • Communicate with customers to develop and calculate control algorithms
  • Support PLC, motor drives and related data acquisition hardware associated with software

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:

           

  • BS in Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering
  • Visual Studio, VB, C#, WPF, Siemens Portal Software
  • Understanding of Controls, electrical-mechanical devices

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

 

  • Familiarity of Engine test cells
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to effectively translate needs into a product that integrates with existing systems
  • Experience developing control and data acquisition software
  • Experience with electrical schematics and electromechanical devices
  • Ability to learn and understand practical applied aspects of Afton Chemical R&D testing
  • Troubleshooting skills and basic understanding of all electrical disciplines
  • Understanding of testing, data analysis, and techniques used to interpret and present test data

 

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Outstanding communication skills are required to effectively interface with researchers and business leaders to determine operational needs and develop “best practices” approaches that will integrate effectively with R&D and corporate system architecture.
