The Statistics Group Leader will lead a team of applied statisticians supporting product development and optimization initiatives across all of Afton’s SBUs. Provide expert statistical guidance to scientists, formulators, and engineers ranging from visualizations of data, experimental design, advanced statistical models, and machine learning techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily provide statistical support for R&D activities, including designing and analyzing experiments, building predictive & prescriptive models, summarizing and visualizing operational (streaming) data
  • Consult with manufacturing and process development groups as needed
  • Lead / mentor a group of Applied Statisticians
  • Provide technical expertise in:
  • Linear and non-linear regression (standard least squares, stepwise, logistic, generalized regression including penalized regression)
  • Multivariate analysis (principal components, partial least squares, clustering, discriminant)
  • Quality and reliability (statistical process control, gage R&R, reliability and survival)
  • Machine learning (classification/regression trees, boosted trees, neural networks)
  • Interface with teams working on improvements and enhancements to Afton’s data management systems
  • Interact with external customers (oil companies and OEMs) as required

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:           

  • MS degree in Statistics
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of experimental design, linear and non-linear regression, multivariate statistics, and machine learning algorithms
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in either R&D or manufacturing and leading a team
  • SAS (base and Enterprise Guide), JMP, Minitab, SQL, Microsoft Excel

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • PhD in Statistics
  • 10-15 years of experience in engineering, chemical manufacturing or R&D
  • ProMV, Design-Expert, Tableau, R, Python, Matlab
