Chemical Technician Analytical

Overview

An opportunity has arisen in our small, friendly Analytical Characterisation Testing Team for a Chemical Technician to perform industry and Afton specific laboratory tests as requested, complete preliminary analysis and record data. We are seeking an enthusiastic team player, who is keen to learn new techniques and can demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail, whilst keeping up with the high throughput of tests. 

 

Deadline for applications:                             26th February

First interviews – video call:                         4th and 5th March

Second interviews – F2F on site*:             9th and 10th March

Target start date:                                             12th April

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Competently perform laboratory testing using established test methods. Assist in the development and modification of test methods if required.
  2. Complete analysis and enter test results into the LIMS database to the required timescales and communicate results to appropriate parties as required.
  3. Operate analytical equipment competently and in accordance with the test procedure. If required take responsibility for the calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of the laboratory equipment and/or instrumentation necessary to perform the required test. 
  4. Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and safe condition.
  5. Maintain adequate level of specific as well as general technical knowledge through training so as to perform required duties competently. 
  6. Ensure that ISO procedures and documentation is maintained on all ISO or quality related activities. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the ISO requirements.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:

           

  • BSc or equivalent in Chemistry, or relevant experience

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Industry experience
  • Experience of running any of the following tests:

                        ICP; KV; TAN; TBN; Water KF;

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

 

  • Computer literacy
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to attend to details
  • Able to complete basic laboratory procedures with intermediate to minimal supervision
  • Able to demonstrate basic knowledge of safe laboratory practices and procedures
  • Able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of laboratory terminology and basic equipment use
