Overview

Afton Chemical Corporation is part of the NewMarket Corporation (NYSE: NEU) family of companies, and is one of the largest global suppliers of lubricant additives and offers a broad line of fuel additives worldwide.

The Supply Planning Specialist will develop and manage the supply plan, any associated material movements required to achieve the plan, and ensure timely fulfilment of orders. The proper execution of the role should enable the best utilization of production facilities and should enable the right product being available for customers in the right time and in the right location.  Specific roles encompass planning for defined business units as required in regional and global markets.

Responsibilities

  • Seek and interpret inputs from across the organization to build a demand plan that will drive operational activity in line with the business objectives.
  • Develop requirement plans for plants and some tollers to ensure the plant is operating in line with Afton’s planned requirements.
  • Manage the import and/or export of components or products to support the demand plan activities in other regions.
  • Manage inventory levels within target ranges for key materials and key locations. The aim is to have adequate material to maintain supply without increasing working capital costs to an unacceptable level.
  • Maintain understanding of short-term capacity availability and constraints. This is so that related inquiries arising from the business (internal and external) and logistics teams can be addressed (in co-ordination with the Regional Product Manager) in a clear, accurate and responsive manner.
  • Respond to changes in plan in a timely manner. In addition to updating the demand plan and material movement requirements, this should also include highlighting likely impact of these changes to the business team. This is to ensure that the impact of these changes are understood across the regional team.
  • Where required, participate in regional S&OP or IBP meetings. This will include providing reports on plans, capacity outlook, actions associated with product transitions and new product introductions & inventory. The aim is to use the meeting to communicate the demand plan and seek input and validation.
  • Collaborate with planners in one’s own region and other regions to ensure coordination of shared global resources (such as plant capacity) and develop best practice procedures.
  • Be aware of, and support where necessary, other Supply operations within the region to ensure that Planning activities are aligned with Logistics and Procurement objectives.
  • Support company quality and safety systems through day to day activities and via formal feedback mechanism.
