Chemistry lab technician with a primary role executing day-to-day operation of the sample inventory laboratory. 

Responsibilities

  • Active participant in company safety culture.
  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of company, industry and government safety procedures and regulations, and ensure compliance.
  • Perform safe and sound laboratory practices in general.
  • Receive and log samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (StarLIMS).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sample inventory lab.
  • Perform color analysis as a lead analyst, and assist with sample preparation for various physical properties tests on petroleum-based products, including but not limited to viscosity, density, and potentiometric titrations.
  • Participate in ISO related activities with an up-to-date understanding of the ISO function.
  • Maintain quality documentation.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:

  • High school graduate, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Demonstrated lab and/or chemistry training, experience, or aptitude.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related science.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in an analytical chemistry laboratory.
  • Customer service.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of safe laboratory practices and procedures.
  • Basic computer literacy (i.e. Microsoft Office, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to perform standardized laboratory procedures with intermediate to minimal supervision.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks and changing priorities to achieve completion within the agreed-on timeframe.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with fellow analysts, researchers, and stakeholders across Afton's organizational matrix to achieve business objectives.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate information clearly in an engaging and convincing manner.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving.
