Overview

Direct and oversee plant operation and logistic functions. Responsible for safe, environmentally responsible, efficient, and effective operation of the production units. This position manages five production units and overall aspects of distributions, traffic, and raw material scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise subordinates, develop, and coach personnel, plan and arrange for training, resolve employee problems, and discipline issues
  • Determine priorities for the operating units
  • Work toward standardization of Manufacturing and Maintenance practices across plants
  • Coach & mentor others to become lean project leaders and practitioners
  • Develop goals and objectives for the department and monitor progress
  • Develop annual budgets, monitor cost activity and variances, promote efforts to identify cost improvement ideas and work toward implementation of these ideas
  • Lead initiatives associated with health, safety, and environmental improvement, monitor and track activities in these areas and ensure appropriate resources are available
  • Lead plant safety culture improvement initiative
  • Lead initiatives involving quality, reduction of process variation, improvement of process capabilities and OEE
  • Resolve union issues and concerns, actively participate in grievance discussions, serve on the negotiating team for the collective bargaining agreement
  • Review capital projects for safety and operability. Approve and prioritize minor capital expenditures

Education & Experience – minimums DUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS

  • BS degree in a technical field
  • 10-12 years relevant work experience in chemical industry.
  • 2 years of management experience

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

  • MS degree
  • Union experience
  • 6+ years of experience in operations or production management role

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Effective leadership skills and the ability to work productively in a cross functional team environment
  • Influencing, negotiating and diplomacy skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively solve problems and resolve conflicts
  • Organizational skills and is able to prioritize work, develop appropriate timelines and work to deadlines
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Able to travel as required – 25%
  • Skills, software knowledge and/or certifications specific to the industry/function
  • Ability to manage multiple crews at multiple locations
