Overview

Direct the activities of the Process Engineering, Capital Project Management, Controls System Support and Technical Support Groups.  Define and oversee the implementation of strategies and projects that enhance Afton's manufacturing and production capabilities. Would typically manage a team of 6 to 7 direct global engineering managers making up an overall organizational responsibility of  70 - 90 employees. Primary expense budget responsibility is typically in the range of $20MM, and a Capital budget of $75MM.

Responsibilities

  • Direct process design and economic studies in support of plant expansions, retrofitting options, new facilities and/or opportunities.
  • Direct Quality group in developing and maintaining a healthy product portfolio and supporting work processes. Interact with the R&D community to assure products are designed with quality in mind for the full lifecycle of the product.
  • Direct and support manufacturing optimization efforts.
  • Direct the global Project Engineering group in the execution of our long-range capital plan. Support with in-house and 3rd party resources.
  • Ensure comprehensive safety programs are a part of all project work and all Engineering and Quality employees are following and actively participating in site safety activities, monthly safety meetings, interactive safety inspections, group safety observation programs, safety training, JSA development, active reporting and corrective action programs.
  • Assure that complete ISO documentation is maintained on all ISO or quality related activities. Participate in ISO related activities and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the ISO function.
  • Interface with the various groups in such a way to assure that the Engineering activities are in line with established objectives or other specific, identified and approved needs.
  • Periodic travel (including international travel) will be required.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as Chemical Engineering or related discipline
  • Demonstrated business acumen, effective project management, strategic thinking and leadership skills in the petrochemical industry typically acquired after at least 15 years of relevant experience, including managerial level experience.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or MBA
  • Some international technical/business experience

  • Able to demonstrate practical applications and knowledge of the purchasing management process and project management practices
  • Able to develop and maintain effective peer and organizational relationships and work collaboratively with leaders and technical resources to use innovation to drive positive change
  • Able to demonstrate a personal management style and management skills which motivate and enhance global employee performance
  • Able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of business goals and objectives and industry market environment and trends
  • Able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills in addition to effective presentation skills (often to senior level managers)
  • Able to access and judge staff skill levels and to delegate appropriately
