Marketing Specialist - Industrial

Assist in the development and management of marketing strategies under the supervision of Sr. Staff. Industrial product groups would include, for example, hydraulic, gear, grease, slideway and turbine applications.


  • Consult with sales/business, customers and OEM's to determine needs and expectations. Review and research available appropriate data and develop annual market plans/strategies that showcase how Afton products meet the customer's needs.
  • Consult with R&D regarding the status for product development in order to establish appropriate timeline for implementation of marketing programs.
  • Establish priorities for CTS projects. Recommend additional projects based on analysis of customer specifications/needs.
  • Analyze market, industry and competitive data, communicate results to Sr. Management and make recommendations for marketing programs that create high profile image for current and future Afton products in the marketplace.
  • Develop product line economic analysis and evaluate product line profitability. Make recommendations for modifications to product line portfolio as appropriate.
  • Monitor overall quality of the product line. Consult with appropriate cross functional group to identify quality problems and insure implementation of corrective measures.
  • Develop marketing communication, promotional and sales support literature. Consult with R&D, business and external affairs to insure accuracy and protection of proprietary data.



  • BS/BA degree in Marketing, Business, or science related field
  • 5-7 years relevant work experience

  • MS degree in Marketing, Business, or science related field
  • 2+ years relevant experience
  • 1+ year of CTS, Sales or Manufacturing experience



  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of Afton’s products development, commercialization, delivery and business processes
  • Demonstrates effective influencing, negotiating and diplomacy skills
  • Demonstrates an ability to effectively solve problems and resolve conflicts
  • Demonstrates an ability to develop a broad understanding of one or more product line
  • Able to understand the basic principles of pricing and market strategy and related financial and budgetary issues
  • Demonstrate the ability to work productively in a team environment
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills; listens effectively
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills and is able to prioritize work and develop appropriate time lines
  • Demonstrates an ability to use statistical analysis effectively
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles of market, competitive and customer analysis
  • Able to work with moderate supervision in handling routine marketing programs and takes initiative as appropriate
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to quickly changing business environment
  • Able to conceive plan of action and implement and follow through with the plan
  • Demonstrate adequate literacy regarding Afton's routine computer applications
  • Able to travel as required
