Afton Chemical Ltd is part of the NewMarket Corporation (NYSE: NEU) family of companies, and is one of the largest global suppliers of lubricant and fuel additives worldwide.We have an exciting opportunity to join our Industrial laboratory team, as a team member, developing as the Team Lead over the next 12 to 18 months. The ideal candidate will have several years of experience in a chemical lab and either, previous supervisory experience, or demonstrable leadership skills, coupled with strong customer service skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving and teamwork.
Day to day Supervisory responsibility of Laboratory Technicians.
Customer demand and expectation management.
Perform additive blending following requested formulations, handling chemical components and managing inventory. Submission of internal and external testing, generating required paperwork as necessary.
Manage a team of Laboratory Technicians, including daily work priorities, completing Company appraisal cycle commitments & working closely with Supervisory peers
Work closely with internal Company stakeholders / customers to ensure Project priorities and resourcing can be matched and managing expectations where we cannot meet demand.
Know, understand and consistently adhere to established Company global safety policy and procedures.
Perform chemical laboratory sample oil blending using established procedures (internal chemical lab SOPs & formulations).
Monitor inventory level and order materials and supplies as needed. May recommend changes in inventory levels based on historical order/usage data. May add inventory items based on historical demand and usage data and recommend deletion of seldom used items.
Understand and utilize Company software (ReDS, StarLIMS, Lotus Notes) to complete preliminary analysis and interpretation of test results. Prepare reports, memos, presentations, etc., and/or enter into database(s), to communicate results to domestic and global customer technical services & R&D engineers. Handles requests and report results in a timely fashion.
Participate in and assist with the continuing personal and group/area training process.
Maintain adequate level of specific as well as general technical expertise through training, seminars, etc., to support required activity.
Assume responsibilities for the maintenance and trouble shooting of the laboratory equipment and/or instrumentation necessary to perform the laboratory tests.
Assure that complete ISO documentation is maintained on all ISO or quality related activities. Participate in ISO related activities and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the ISO function.
Experience handling chemicals in laboratory environment and understanding of Good Lab Practice.
Demonstrable interest and aptitude for supervision and developing/coaching others.
Experience of managing / leading people (directly or indirectly)
Associate or Bachelor degree of organic chemistry or chemical engineering
Demonstrated knowledge and skills of oil, lubricant or additive industry more than 3 years
