Lead, plan, and direct the marketing of Afton’s Diesel Performance Additives (DPA), specialty chemicals and octane product lines and services by executing the following responsibilities personally, in conjunction with regional functional personnel, and in alignment with global strategy and financial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the business by developing, communicating, and executing 5-year strategic plans for market segments and customer and product portfolios. Understand the products and services that Afton offers and that competitors offer to the marketplace from the perspective of comparison, substitution, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they serve the needs if the customers and market.

  • Exhibit leadership and poise in the face of inevitable pressure, adversity, and ambiguity while managing conflict in a constructive way to facilitate success in an environment of healthy tension.

  • Articulate a deep, abiding belief that delivering insights and solutions for the customer should drive business strategy. Using the CSP and NPD processes, look constantly for new ways to achieve profitable growth with an outside-in perspective; seek to discover what is influencing current customer/consumer needs; demonstrate excellence in serving customers by finding profitable win-win solutions to needs; understand the customer’s business, the customer’s customers business, as well as Afton’s business.

  • Introduce new product by following NPD processes.
  • Analyze market forces and competition, the value provided by products, and product cost to define and implement appropriate pricing for Afton’s products. Perform economic analyses to evaluate product line profitability. Make recommendations for modifications to product line portfolios as appropriate to cater to local market needs, customer demands, and our goal for profit growth and working capital minimization.
  • Develop a deep and broad understanding of the Afton organization, structure and business processes and culture. Know how functions relate to each other, and influence without authority to lead and progress strategic and tactical plans throughout the organization. Develop familiarity with connections between processes, regions, and functions to identify potential issues and influence the people most appropriate to deliver desired results.
    • Promote the 5-year strategies and 1 year tactical marketing plans internally and externally to ensure support from all departments.
    • Work closely with the business function to insure the strategy fits with global strategies and objectives.
    • Consult with R&D regarding the status of NPD projects in order to successfully deliver new product introductions.
    • Work with Afton’s sales and with key target accounts to define and implement the program.
    • Cultivate relationships with key customers, industry influencers, and key strategic partners.

  • For each market served, recommend and manage channels to market (e.g., distributors, co-marketing opportunities or direct sales) and highest priority customers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:           

  • BS/BA and/or MBA in Marketing or Science related field
  • 5-7 years

 

NOTE:  For NewMarket employees, an appropriate combination of experiences that will support the required skill base may replace one or more of the specific experience requirements above.

 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • MS in Marketing, Business or Science related field
  • 2+ years experience in petroleum industry

  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills and the ability to work productively in a cross functional team environment
  • Demonstrates effective influencing, negotiating and diplomacy skills
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills, including the ability to understand and analyze market trends and make appropriate recommendations/decisions regarding pricing and particular product groups and market segments
  • Displays and utilizes a strong understanding of the NPD and CSP processes
  • Demonstrate an ability to effectively solve problems and resolve conflicts
  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills and is able to prioritize work, develop appropriate time lines and work to deadlines
  • Demonstrate ability to make sound decisions based on all available data and cross functional input
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of market, competitive and customer analysis
  • Able to work with minimum supervision in handling marketing processes and takes initiative as appropriate using independent discretionary decision making authority
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to quickly changing business environment
  • Able to conceive a plan of action and implement and follow through with the plan
  • Able to travel as required
  • Skills, software knowledge and/or certifications specific to the industry/function
