Financial Analyst

Location US-VA-Richmond



NewMarket Corporation is the parent company of Afton Chemical Corporation and Ethyl Corporation. Afton Chemical is one of the largest global suppliers of lubricant additives and offers a broad line of fuel additives worldwide. 


The Financial Analyst role will define and execute financial reporting and data development tasks intended to support solutions for the Global Finance Operations Team, and their business customers.  The Analyst will support and execute monthly close processes, and produce / deliver monthly reporting and adhoc forecasts.  The Analyst will support significant financial planning events that involve system / data preparedness, technical support and end-user security / support. Planning tasks include understanding / aligning master data, validating data sources, ensuring consistency of global data, testing and ongoing maintenance.  This role will also encompass major system transitions / upgrade support, developing and documenting requirements, and subsequently partnering with both IT and Business Process Owners.  Key success factor is the ability to effectively partner and collaborate with colleagues in Finance and Accounting, Information Systems, stewards of shared data, and vendors / consultants.


  • Identify and analyze business requirements from documents and end-user discussions; identify and define the data requirements necessary to support each reporting and planning process.
  • Identify and perform detailed analysis of all data sources for each application and subject area; identify and negotiate master data ownership and governance procedures, as needed.
  • Identify and define security requirements, business rules, data integrity / constraints associated with all data.
  • Verify the accuracy and level of information supporting business requirements, as well as subsequent development activities; anticipating the impact to related information and business requirements.
  • Build reports and analytical tools, provide solutions for projects, optimize the performance and reliability of reports, take corrective action to improve / reconcile as necessary.
  • Ability to logically and efficiently trouble-shoot and resolve, data and financial problems and outliers.
  • Play a vital role in the evaluation of data and system solutions.




  • BS Degree in Business Finance, or a related field of study.
  • 3-5 years in Financial Reporting, Analysis, and Planning.
  • 3-5 years developing analytical data models, extracts, and reporting and planning tools.
  • Experience in data architecture and / or master data governance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to travel as required.



  • Experience with SAP Finance software; ECC, BW, and BPC.
  • Experience with Tableau software.
  • Experience with a chemical manufacturing business.



  • Design data models; cleanse, validate, interpret, and analyze data.
  • Design, maintain, execute, and improve reporting and planning processes.
  • Document meetings, requirements, and applications.
  • Provide Data Support to NewMarket and Afton internal customers.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
