Senior EHS Specialist

The Senior EHS Specialist will be responsible for managing all aspects of site EHS programs - including identifying, implementing EHS programs, improving existing EHS programs and strengthening overall performance at Afton sites/facilities for which they are accountable. The role will work to ensure compliance with National, Regional, state and local regulations.


Create and implement environmental, safety, health, security, and regulatory compliance programs that meet applicable requirements and ensure safety.
Ensure robust processes, procedures and work instructions are in place for Afton personnel that ensure safety and compliance.

Ensure systems and records are in place to demonstrate compliance with safety, health environmental, and security requirements.
Work to proactively identify and control risk, heading off EHS issues and concerns.
Interact with local, state, and federal authorities on regulatory matters as needed to ensure that Afton meets all compliance obligations.
Produce accurate metrics; using them to drive continuous improvement and enable sites to achieve Vision of Zero injuries/incidents/non-compliance.
Provide EHS support for proposed projects, at the site level or for new activities to identify and mitigate risks, reduce impact in keeping with Design with EHS in Mind.
Manage the overall strategy and program for EHS related Training. Ensure training is well targeted, executed, content and systems remain current and relevant; secure training resources and materials as needed.
Assist in implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the EHS management system to maintain certifications and deliver performance.
Provide leadership and support for site Emergency Response/Crisis Communications including planning, training, drills and incident coordination, follow up.
Evaluate Third-Party Service providers including contractors, tollers, suppliers – as required. Ensure any issues are communicated and effectively managed / addressed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Industrial Hygiene or Industrial Safety
  • Proven relevant work experience in an industrial setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated effective program and project management, strategic thinking and leadership skills.
  • Experience in manufacturing, laboratory and/or R&D environments.
