Afton Chemical Corporation develops and manufactures petroleum additives that help fuels burn cleaner and more efficiently, engines run smoother, and machines last longer.  Included:  performance fuels and refinery additives such as gasoline performance additives, diesel fuel additives, lubricity improvers and cold flow improvers.; driveline products such as automotive gear oil and automatic transmission fluids; engine oil additives for passenger cars, heavy-duty diesel engines, and railroad and marine diesel engines; industrial products such as anti-wear and R&O hydraulic oils, industrial specialty chemicals, industrial gear oils and grease.


The Sr Control System Developer must work effectively in a manufacturing environment within a team.  Creative problem solving troubleshooting skills as well as good communication skills are required.  


  • Provide programming and configuration support for daily plant operation (24/7), technical service, maintenance, and project groups.
  • Provide after hour call support for assigned plant areas.
  • Provide improvement and changes to control system programs to meet changing operating needs and improve operator interface (Alarms, Graphics).
  • Provide advising role within the Controls group.
  • Maintain documentation of control program intent & implementation, changes initiated, etc.
  • Review control program changes with process/production engineers and operators.
  • The position will work on new and existing control systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering (four-year college or university), preferably in Chemical or Electrical Engineering
  • Five plus years’ work experience in Chemical/Petro Chemical/Manufacturing industrial environment
  • Minimum five years in Control Systems or Process Control role
  • Experience with DCS/PLC configuration (preferred Rockwell Automation ControlLogix ,Siemens S7, or Emerson DeltaV)
  • Experience with HMI configuration (preferred): Wonderware’s HMI
  • Experience with Databases (SQL Server) preferred
  • Working knowledge of network services including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and VPN preferred
  • Working knowledge of data historian
  • Working knowledge of batch application and standards (ISA 88)
  • Position is first shift (flexible hours) and maybe occasional shift coverage during project startup (typically 2-5 days)
