Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an analytical individual with a scientific background or education to join our Process Development team in a Chemical Technician role. You will be performing industry and Afton-specific laboratory blending and testing, completing preliminary analysis, and recording data to support R&D projects.

Responsibilities

  1. Actively participate in safety related activities including safety huddles and site/company safety initiatives. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of company, industry and government safety procedures and regulations.
  2. Follow detailed blending instructions in support of commercialization and raw material approvals. May be required to conduct more complex reactions with limited supervision.
  3. Perform industry and Afton specific laboratory tests using established procedures. Assist in development and modification of tests as needed. Follow agreed plan for testing and/or additive blending.
  4. Complete preliminary analysis and interpretation of test results and enter them into database(s). Communicate results to appropriate parties in agreed upon timelines and report format.
  5. Operate specialized equipment safely and in accordance with established procedure. Perform blends and reactions accurately to ensure repeatability and reproducibility. Assume responsibilities for the maintenance and troubleshooting of the laboratory equipment necessary to perform the laboratory blends and reactions.
  6. Purchase, maintain, and/or obtain adequate inventory of samples and lab supplies for testing and work area. Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and safe condition in line with 5s principles.
  7. Maintain adequate level of specific as well as general technical expertise through training, seminars, etc., at the direction of management to support required activity.
  8. Ensure that complete ISO documentation is maintained on all ISO or quality related activities. Participate in ISO related activities and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the ISO function.

Qualifications

  • Strong A-Levels / BTEC or equivalent in science subjects.
  • Demonstrated lab and/or chemistry training, experience, or aptitude.
  • Practical/hands-on lab blending experience.
