Overview

Afton Chemical Corporation develops and manufactures petroleum additives that help fuels burn cleaner and more efficiently, engines run smoother, and machines last longer. Afton is seeking a process design engineer for our manufacturing facility in Sauget, Illinois located near Saint Louis, Missouri.  Candidate must work effectively in a manufacturing environment within a team. Creative problem solving and troubleshooting skills as well as excellent communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances for new and modified processes.
  • Develop project scopes for small and large capital projects.
  • Specify new process equipment.  Work with equipment vendors and Operations to aide in selection.
  • Responsible for process manufacturing processes and bringing in state of the art process technologies to improve product quality and lower manufacturing costs.
  • Develop new plant designs for debottlenecking existing sites and greenfield expansions.
  • Work with the Plant Operations teams to provide technical expertise and support for resolving operational issues.
  • Provide technical coverage for plant trials and startups.
  • Write and train chemical operators on operating procedures for new processes and equipment.
  • Interface with R&D with regard to process development and process improvements.
  • Develop safety procedures to be employed by workers operating equipment. Lead or be a member of PPA (potential problem analysis), JSA (job safety analysis) and PHAs (process hazard analysis) teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in plant or engineering environment (Process Engineering, Technical Services, etc.)
  • Demonstrates the ability to interface effectively with all levels of staff in a variety of functions
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently
  • Able to travel (domestic and internationally as required)
  • Excellent communication skills
