Overview

Supervisor has responsibility for the performance and continuity of supply for multiple production units. Directs unit supervisors.  Responsible to support continuous improvement initiatives in Lean manufacturing, safety, responsible care, production, quality, maintenance, and personnel development.   Individual will actively participate in the daily operations of a manufacturing area.

Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise subordinates, complete employee evaluations and plan and arrange for development and training. Resolve employee problems and discipline issues. 
  • Coordinate with Sr. Operations Manager on the development of area goals and objectives
  • Attend meetings for the operations manager in absence when needed.
  • Lead initiatives associated with safety, environmental and VPP. Monitor and track activities in these areas and ensure appropriate resources are available. Investigate all safety incidents for root cause and determine appropriate follow up actions to be taken. 
  • Consult with Human Resources and department heads to assist in the resolution of union issues and concerns. Actively participate in the 2nd level grievance discussions.
  • Develop and implement detailed plans for introduction of new production into operating units to ensure success of operations.
  • Review and approve TMPs, MCRs, and all raw material specifications to ensure accuracy and appropriate documentation. Rewrite all Standard Manufacturing Procedures manuals on a periodic basis to insure proper documentation of manufacturing guidelines. 
  • Review capital projects for safety and operability. Issue Process Change Forms to ensure documentation of all changes in the area and follow up to insure closure.
  • Facilitate departmental HSES initiatives with supervisors, engineers, and support staff for a defined manufacturing area. Ensure safety procedure adherence by establishing and supporting a proactive safety culture within the production units.
  • Coordinate, plan, and assist in MI inspections, maintenance preventative plans, turn-around preparation, and routine equipment repairs within the defined manufacturing area.
  • Coordinate activities between the Operations and Maintenance departments including day-to-day breakdowns. Integrate workload with Area Engineer to maximize OEE performance across multiple units in the area.
  • Mentor, develop, and audit Supervisor progression in the area. Coordinate training and plant development initiatives. 
  • Serve as a focal point for operations issues on a daily basis. Escalate priorities between management and other areas at appropriate Tier meetings.
  • Provide coverage support for Supervisors and weekend relief coverage as needed.
  • Serve as the point person for Operations Daily Tier 2 meeting with Area Engineer.
  • Oversee improvements to material management, including raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods to improve inventory accuracy, reduce stock-out incidents, and improve logistic scheduling for an area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

 

  • Two or more years of supervisory experience with increasing leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience with Union contracts and labor relations.
  • Experience with manufacturing operations and knowledge of quality control, project engineering, process control, production planning and scheduling & logistics
  • Technical degree or 4+ years of related experience
