Overview

               Develops, leads, implements and monitors activities related to Health, Safety, Process Safety, Environmental compliance to achieve Afton’s Vision of Zero. Typically manages a team of 4-7 employees.

Responsibilities

  • Creates a culture that promotes safety as a value, emphasizes the importance of EHS compliance and strives for risk reduction at all levels.
  •  Directs the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the EHS management system site-wide. Ensures on-going certifications to RC 14001/ISO 14001, OSHA VPP and Responsible Care are fulfilled.
  •  Manages site PSM program to ensure compliance with OSHA PSM/EPA RMP/Responsible Care Process Safety requirements. Leverages PSM concepts to control and mitigate risks. Produces leading PSM Metrics to advance program maturity.
  •  Oversees development and management of all site EHS policies, procedures, training, and inspections.
  •  Maintains compliance with applicable EHS related federal, state, local regulations as well as corporate requirements, procedures and policies.
  •  Oversees Emergency Response, Fire & Loss Prevention, Industrial Hygiene and medical monitoring programs, including drills, training and monitoring.
  •  Ensures all incidents/near misses are reported and investigated. Shares learning, makes sure targeted actions are in place to prevent recurrence.
  •  Prepares EHS/PSM/ESG metrics and ensures projects are executed to drive performance.
  •  Works closely with Corporate EHS to align goals, objectives, improvement plans and performance metrics. Actively participates in Global EHS Leadership Council.
  •  Interviews, selects, hires and retains EHS team talent, ensures career development and manages individual performance.
  •  Develops and manages annual EHS budget; Provides input to shape site’s Annual budget needs for EHS, capital and expense spending, project and program needs. 

 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years work experience–Chemical, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Refining, Pulp & Paper or related manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years EHS Management experience
  • EHS related systems, data analysis, metrics
  • Exposure to Process Safety Management
  • Exposure to Industrial Hygiene
  • Union experience

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • CSP, PE, PHA Team Leader, formal EHS training
