Overview

Direct and oversee all phases of plant maintenance to ensure the safe, environmentally friendly and cost effective production of quality products to serve our customers. Manage/supervise a team of union employees.

Responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise subordinates, resolve employee problems and disciplinary issues in accordance with the Union contract. Consult with Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Oversee and ensure development, implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive safety program in assigned area. Areas of accountability will include: documentation of safety activities, routine scheduling of safety meetings, interactive safety inspections, group safety observation programs, safety training JSA and JSR development, active reporting and corrective action program.  Foster a culture of safety.
  • Determine staffing needs and manpower requirements, plan and arrange for staff development and training based on appropriate skills assessment to ensure effective work assignments.
  • Provide guidance, direction to the maintenance staff on technical issues. Provide options and alternatives to resolve problems based on technical research (equipment files, work order history, etc.) and engineering calculations.  Complete initial engineering design work/sketches and oversee implementation of resolution.
  • Conceive, develop and implement ongoing cost containment/improvement initiatives including:
  • General expense control and reduction
  • Employee overtime reduction and productivity improvement
  • Review of preventative and predictive maintenance techniques
  • Completion of repetitive failure analysis
  • Participate in the plant reliability program, routinely reviewing maintenance requests, backlogs, scheduling priorities and planning processes, etc. to minimize turnaround time and avoid unplanned outages.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Two-year degree/certificate or journeyman status
  • 5-7 years relevant work experience in Maintenance
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • 3+ years’ experience in Maintenance Supervision

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrates an in-depth working knowledge of process equipment operation and applications, piping systems, schematics, engineering drawings & construction standards
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ASME, ANSI codes
  • Understanding of the budgeting process in a plant maintenance environment
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations and a basic knowledge of local and state regulations concerning plant operation and construction
  • Basic understanding of electricity/electrical systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of labor laws
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; presentation, facilitation, negotiation & conflict resolution skills
  • Able to manage multiple tasks concurrently; visualize “Big Picture” while focusing on details to complete tasks
  • Able to interact effectively with all levels of employees
  • Able to cope with multiple interruptions
  • Able to troubleshoot mechanical systems/equipment
  • Demonstrates computer literacy with regard to Afton’s routine applications (SAP, Microsoft Office, etc.) and is able to use appropriate software to solve engineering problems
