Conducts complex and/or non-standard research, development, and/or performance testing activities to meet stated objectives of the respective SBU.  May act as overall or technical project lead and direct the work of other technical team members assigned to the project.  High level of communication and presentation skill required.  Often responsible for multiple projects of varying complexity simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Support chemists and formulators in R&D product groups by providing engineering insight and identifying or designing mechanical solutions that meet the objects of internal and external customers
  • Lead research projects independently, supervising technical team members assigned to the projects.  
  • Provide proactive OEM support and guidance through effective and insightful face to face and written communications.
  • Provide leadership in matters of safety, taking personal responsibility for a safe working environment and for following and promoting established safety policies and procedures 
  • Compile data, interpret results interpretation and written test reports. Consult with internal/external customer as necessary to review and explain results, offer technical insight and ensure that project goals are being met. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:           

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a testing environment, preferably in automotive, fuels, emissions or lubricant testing
  • Experience with design, construction, and commissioning of machines, test cells, rigs or other research tools is highly desirable
  • Intimate knowledge of vehicles, transmissions and associated electronics
  • Able to solve complex technical problems and deliver practical solutions
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate at various levels
