ABOUT US:

Afton Chemical Corporation is part of the NewMarket Corporation (NYSE: NEU) family of companies, and is one of the largest global suppliers of lubricant additives and offers a broad line of fuel additives worldwide. 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for ensuring uninterrupted, cost-effective supply of raw materials that support Afton business goals and operations, including production, contract manufacturing, resale operations, R&D and corporate departments. This is the entry level for direct purchasing responsibilities and will primarily focus on supporting the team with projects using data driven analytics, updating multiple information systems, and will typically work under supervision. The role will be responsible for a portfolio of annual spend of less than $20MM.

Responsibilities

1. Supports buyers on projects, specifications, purchase orders, contracts, price changes, supply/delivery situations, price discrepancies and sample requests and coordination for trials.

2. Uses SAP to create quantity contracts, update supplier pricing, and correct SAP documentation discrepancies (quota agreements, contracts, purchase orders, supplier price mismatches, etc.).

3. Is a focal point for data collection and report integration for direct procurement. Ensures consistency in information reporting and format.

 

4. Develops mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers, tracking performance to resolve delivery, quality, price, and other concerns.

5. Assists Accounts Payable with invoicing price discrepancies, research, and resolution.

 

6. Key contact with EHS for various data collection, such as SDS and Product Stewardship.

 

7. Responsible for vendor assessments for the team’s current and potential suppliers.

 

8. Negotiates pricing and maintains supplier price forecasts for assigned suppliers and materials.

 

9. Prepares, maintains, and communicates long term sourcing strategies for assigned materials.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:

 

· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business, Economics, Math, Chemistry or related field

· Demonstrated effective communication, negotiation and organizational skills typically acquired through 3 or more years of relevant or related experience

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

 

· Purchasing or directly relevant experience

· Work experience in the petroleum additive, lubricant, or chemical industry

· Professional Certification, such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or similar certification (e.g. CIPS, CPIM, CPM)

 

For NewMarket, Afton or Ethyl employees, an appropriate combination of experiences that will support the required skill base may replace one or more of the specific experience requirements above.
