SUMMARY:

Afton Chemical Corporation is seeking a detail-oriented Chemical Technician to support analytical testing within our petroleum additives laboratory. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing elemental analysis using ICP-OES and ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and timely delivery of analytical results.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct elemental analysis using ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma–Optical Emission Spectroscopy) following established methods and quality standards.
  • Prepare samples, standards, and reagents in accordance with laboratory protocols.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain ICP-OES instrumentation and related equipment.
  • Review, interpret, and document analytical data with high attention to accuracy and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation issues and assist in method optimization when needed.
  • Adhere to all safety, environmental, and quality management procedures.
  • Collaborate with fellow laboratory personnel and communicate findings to technical staff.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related scientific field, or a minimum of two years of directly relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with ICP-OES or other elemental analysis techniques strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIMS), analytical instrumentation, and good laboratory practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and data integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Willing to work in a temp to hire capacity. This role would be a contract position for the first 3-6 months. 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in petroleum additives, petrochemicals, or related industries.
  • Understanding of sample digestion techniques and quality control practices.
  • Basic troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical instrumentation.
