Oxidation Chemical Technician

Overview

Afton Chemical Ltd, based in Bracknell, Berkshire, are a major independent supplier of lubricant and fuel additives to the oil industry and part of the worldwide NewMarket Corporation.

 

We have a rare opportunity for an enthusiastic team-player to join our Analytical Oxidation team as a Chemical Technician, working in our quality-controlled laboratory, providing analytical testing services in support of research and development. The role will involve running the techniques listed below as well as more industry specific methods:

 

  • Rust (ASTM D665) testing
  • RPVOT (ASTM D2272 IP229)
  • TAN (ASTM D3339)
  • Additional testing in support of business needs, may include, Hydraulic Stability (ASTM D2070), CMA and MAN testing.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe work practices and adhere to all safety regulations.
  • Run oxidation laboratory testing accurately and precisely using established test methods.
  • If required, take responsibility for the calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of the laboratory equipment and/or instrumentation necessary to perform the required test.
  • Communicate results to internal customers including preparing data reports and presentations.
  • Manage multiple test queues.
  • Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and safe condition.
  • Maintain technical knowledge through training.
  • Ensure that ISO procedures and documentation is maintained.
  • Collaborate with customers supporting their requests, queries and modifications in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

 

  • A Higher education qualification in Chemistry or related field.

The following would be advantageous, but not essential:

 

  • Experience of working within a laboratory environment, preferably in automotive, fuels or lubricant testing.
  •  
  • Experience with a some of the tests above.
  • Familiarity with oxidation testing: ASTM D4310, ASTM D943, ASTM D2893
